Rechargeable Lithium

Lithium Ion

Panasonic Li-Ion

Suitable for a wide range of applications, Lithium Ion offers the maximum amount of rechargeable energy storage for the smallest amount of space. Where low battery energy densities have caused design problems in the past, Lithium Ion batteries are offering a solution, enabling smaller and more powerful electronic devices.

Lithium Ion cells are nominally 3.7v and can be combined to form large packs if required. Safety circuitry is required and can be configured to provide highly accurate capacity monitoring and other smart battery functions.

Characterisics:
3.7v per cell
Low internal impedance
Approx. energy density: Up to 250Wh/Kg
Approx. energy density: Up to 690Wh/L
Application Examples:
Handheld Electronics
Next-gen Devices
Consumer Electronics
Laptops

Lithium Nanophosphate

a123-automotive-small

Advanced energy storage requires advanced battery chemistry. With outstanding efficiency and life, even at high power, Lithium Nanophosphate from A123 Systems offers a unique solution to solve energy storage problems. Offering industry leading power density and cycle life, Lithium Nanophosphate is safe and effective in difficult applications, from Formula 1 KERS to surgical electronics to massive electrical grid-stabilisation systems.

Lithium Nanophosphate cells are nominally 3.3v and can be combined to form large packs if required. Safety circuitry is required and can be configured to provide highly accurate capacity monitoring and other smart battery functions. The chemistry is particularly suited to replacing lead acid batteries, as they are capable of providing similar power levels, but with huge increases in efficiency and life, and decreases in weight and total lifetime costs.

Characterisics:
3.3v per cell
High current discharge
Extremely long cycle life
More efficient than SLA
Application Examples:
SLA upgrade
Motive Power
Sterile Medical Batteries
Backup Power

Lithium Polymer (LiPo)

When design is important and you cannot compromise form to allow space for a bulky battery, Lithium Polymer makes flat and thin electronics possible. Used in the latest generations of mobile devices, Lithium Polymer technology eliminates the difficulty and wasted space in packaging cylindrical cells. Latest generation cells are available from as little as 4mm thick and are easily developed into custom sizes.

Lithium Polymer cells are 3.7v and require safety circuitry. The advantage offered by their shape is made possible by a foil pouch. Care must be taken in design to ensure that the battery is protected from physical damage and has room available to swell slightly over time.

Characterisics:
3.7v per cell
Flat form factor in foil pouch
Easy to package in equipment
Thin
Application Examples:
Handheld Electronics
Next-gen Devices
Consumer Electronics
Miniature devices
