Battery Testing
The testing carried out at Creasefield ranges from simple voltage and thermistor resistance measurements to complex, multi-stage custom Automated Test Equipment (ATE). Each method is tailored to the chemistry and complexity of the product, to ensure that every pack is tested thoroughly, reliably and accurately.
Creasefield uses both commercial test equipment and custom ATE designed by our in-house engineers and programmers. The test schedules range from life cycling to protection circuit stress tests designed to ensure that the pack electronics operate safely and within parameters.
For some BMS and protection circuits the pack capacity is calculated following a full charge/discharge “learn” cycle. Communication with the on-board BMS circuitry allows these learn cycles to be monitored and controlled to ensure that each pack is ready to be shipped in ready-to-use condition.
Our test procedures can include:
- Voltage measurements – for both cell health and electrical connection
- Thermistor resistance measurements
- Load testing
- Life cycling
- Learn cycle programming - Communication with on-board BMS circuitry allows learn cycles to be monitored and controlled to ensure that each pack is ready to be shipped in ready-to-use condition.
- PCM stress testing
- PCM FET verification – ensures that safety circuits operate correctly and within timing tolerances
- SMBus/I2C communication – ensures that packs with on-board BMS can communicate correctly with the users application
- Automatic writing of parameters (serial/bath number, manufacture date etc.) via I2C to suitable BMS ICs
- Collection and documentation of measurement data
Each test schedule is tailored to the individual chemistry, complexity of the product and your requirements, to ensure that every pack is tested reliably and thoroughly.
Creasefield uses both commercial test equipment and custom ATE designed by our in-house engineers and programmers to test the wide variety of battery types we manufacture.
Custom test equipment designed for specific packs has the advantage of being able to:
- Charge/discharge at any rate, not simply the max/min available to commercial equipment
- Monitor/record measurements of any variable (voltage, current, temperature, reported parameters, state of charge)
- Write pack-specific information (serial numbers, batch codes etc.) to individual packs capable of communication with a host machine (via I2C, SMBus etc.)
- Produce custom test reports
Our expertise and in-depth knowledge of battery technology, electronic systems and testing techniques mean Creasefield delivers quality products designed and tested to the highest standards each and every time.
